If you are looking for the Color My Heart Color Dare #94 card please go here.
There is a nautical theme challenge at Cards 4 Guyz and a Maritime theme challenge at Keep it Simple that interested me so I combined this theme with the current Try Stampin' on Tuesday sketch #167 that I really like. I've been taking the Online Card Class for Watercolors so I chose to paint my background instead of using strips of paper (although I do plan to try this sketch with patterned paper soon).
First thing I did was put Versamark ink on the positive side of a Cuttlebug folder. Next I pressed the Bristol paper against it and rubbed with my fingers and then sprinkled Clear Embossing Powder on it and heat set it.
Masking tape was applied to create the white area while I painted the stripes from four different Close To My Heart ink pads. (Acrylic block stamped with ink and then spritzed with water to create the "watercolor paint".)
Close To My Heart products used:
Sky ink
Lagoon ink
True Teal ink (retired)
Pacifica ink
acrylic block
Hello stamp (retired)
Sailboat stamp (retired)
Clear Detail Embossing Powder
3D Foam Tape
Other products:
Cuttlebug Anchors Aweigh embossing folder
Bristol paper by Strathmore
Versamark Ink

Nautical Theme for Curtain Call Inspiration Challenge Feeling Nautical with a Freshly Made Sketch #96
Today as I was commenting on Heart 2 Heart Challenge entries I was drawn to Hansi Brittain's beautiful Guest Designer entry which you can see here. The theme this week at H2H is "Water, Water, Everywhere" and as I was reading through Hansi's post I learned about another new challenge called Curtain Call Inspiration Challenge whose theme this week is "Feeling Nautical". Having many sailors in my family I knew I had to make something for this challenge. I used Tommy paper from Close to My Heart for both tag and background panel. "Hello" was cut with the new Artbooking cartridge (available August 1 on my website here) from Outdoor Denim CS. The tag was matted with Honey CS. The White Daisy card front was dry embossed with a Cuttlebug folder called "Anchors Aweigh".
Here is the Freshly Made Sketch #96 that I followed:

Color My Heart Color Dare #43--Cranberry, Honey and Outdoor Denim and Atlantic Hearts Sketch #3
Welcome back to another Color Dare post! This week we challenge you to use these three Close To My Heart colors: Cranberry, Honey and Outdoor Denim. Neutrals such as black and white are allowed yet we really would like you to use these three colors exclusively. Of course, if you don't yet own any of these colors you may substitute something similar. These colors are also featured in the Tommy paper pack. I used part of a sheet of Tommy paper for the 3 small anchors which are mounted on the side panel. The Outdoor Denim base was run through my Cuttlebug machine with the Anchors Away embossing folder and then distressed with a sanding block from the CTMH Sanding Kit. Thank you is from Say it in Style (now retired CTMH but still one of my favorites). The small anchor Tommy paper circles were popped up from the card with 3D Foam Tape and glittered with my favorite embellishment--Stardust Glitz Glitter Gel. My son and his wife sent me a beautiful flower assortment for Mother's Day and since he is in the Navy I thought he would like this nautical themed thank you card.
I had a little extra time this week so I made a second card. I used the Atlantic Hearts Sketch #3 as my inspiration. The buttons are from Thoughtful Seasons stamp set (retired CTMH) and the flourish is from You and Me (also retired CTMH). The greeting is from A Little Thanks. The frame around the 4 buttons was cut with a Family Treasures scissors. (Close To My Heart used to carry this one many years ago.)
Here is the Atlantic Hearts Sketch #3:
Now head on over to Color My Heart Color Dare to check out what the rest of the Design Team has for you. We would love for you to play along with us--just link up your creation to the blog by Thursday evening, May 23, 9PM CST. There is a monthly prize up for grabs!.
