Color Dare #63--Ruby, Pacifica and Outdoor Denim and Blog Candy Alert!

Welcome back to another Color My Heart Color Dare post!  The Close To My Heart colors we are using this week are Ruby, Pacifica and Outdoor Denim. (You may substitute similar colors if you don't have these CTMH colors yet.)  The Artbooking cartridge was used to create the vertical lattice strip cut from Outdoor Denim CS and layered over White Daisy CS (page 47 overlay shift cut at 4" at Real Dial Size and trimmed to fit the card).  The greeting is one of Close To My Hearts' new individual stamps called Heartfelt Birthday Wish stamped in Ruby ink.  I used a long stamp from the Frosted Cardmaking Kit to accent the greeting panel.  This was layered over Ruby CS.  The card base is Pacifica CS.  The last 2 final touches I used were 3D Foam Tape and Silver Glitz Glitter Gel.

This card went together very quickly and I still have remnants of the lattice overlay to use in a future card.  I am also linking this card up to Bitten by the Bug-2 Overlay challenge.

We look forward to how you will use these colors together!  Please use a direct link to your blog post (not your entire blog) by Thursday, October 9 at 12pm CST here.

Polar Bear Holiday for Sunday Stamps Challenge #58

Welcome back to another Sunday Stamps Challenge post!  This week we have a terrific sketch by Steph to inspire you:

This is a sketch I will be using over and over again because it is so simple and easy to use!  I used a brand new Close To My Heart stamp set called "Polar Bear Holiday" for it's delightfully fun image and versatile greeting.  The background paper is from "Pear and Partridge" (retired CTMH), the scalloped edges were punched with the new Scallop Border CTMH punch from Cranberry CS.  The polar bear was "paper pieced"  (i.e. stamped 3 times to layer the elements). The scarf was stamped onto old Cranberry B & T paper and the spots were colored with a Cranberry marker.  The polar bear was stamped with Black ink onto White Daisy CS. The sled was stamped in Desert Sand ink on Colonial White CS.  The greeting was stamped in Cranberry ink.

Here are the rest of the stamps in Polar Bear Holiday:

If you just have to have this adorable stamp set feel free to order it from my website here if you don't have a local Close To My Heart consultant.  Here is another card I made recently using the skating polar bear.
We can't wait to see what you create using this sketch!   Please use a direct link to join us here and include a link back to us in your blog post.  (Feel free to post our sketch graphic too to let your readers know about our challenge.)

Please take the time to visit the rest of the Design Team's blogs and leave them some appreciation.

Color Dare #59--Choose Your Own Color with Slate and Whisper

Welcome back to another Color My Heart Color Dare post!  This week we are challenging you to use both Close To My Heart colors Slate AND Whisper with one other color of your choice.  Feel free to substitute similar colors if you don't have these CTMH colors yet and you may use neutrals such as White Daisy, Colonial White and others from the Basics CTMH color palette which you can see here.  (The background panel is White Daisy although my photo editing program makes it look a little pinkish.)  I chose the color Ruby and used In the Background Stamps chevron and Happy Autumn stamps.  The postage stamp frame was cut using the Art Philosophy cartridge (page 24 Square 6 cut at 2.25").

The floral stamp was actually stamped twice--once with masking off the leaves and stems with a piece of scotch tape while inking the flowers with Ruby ink and removing the tape before stamping.  The second time I stamped it I masked off the flowers with tape so only the stems and leaves would be stamped in Slate ink.

We would really love for you to join us this week at the Color Dare!  There is a random monthly prize and weekly blog badges to be won!

Black, Fuchsia and Red Color Challenge for Sunday Stamps Challenge #57

Welcome back to another Sunday Stamps Challenge post!  This week we challenge you to use the colors Black, Fuchsia and Red in a papercrafted project.  You can use any brand you wish.

My color choices are Close To My Heart Cranberry, Black, White Daisy and Watermelon (retired CTMH).  The White Daisy background was dry embossed with the Cuttlebug Happy Birthday folder.  A strip of red and white craft tape (washi tape) by Recollections was applied across the top portion of the card.  The stack of gifts was cut with the new Artbooking cartridge (pg. 86 Icon shift cut at 3.5") and small pieces of Cranberry and Watermelon CS were placed behind the overlay.  The gifts were popped up from the card with 3D Foam Tape.  I probably wouldn't have chosen to make this card with these colors had it not been for this Sunday Stamps challenge and I like how it turned out.

We can't wait to see what you create using these colors!   Please use a direct link to join us here and include a link back to us in your blog post.  (Feel free to post our color graphic too to let your readers know about our challenge.)

Artiste K Key for Rose Blossom Garden #7 Using Atlantic Hearts Sketch #10

My daughter-in-law had a big birthday yesterday so I made her a one of a kind special card.  Following the Atlantic Hearts Sketch #10 in combination with the Artiste K Key challenge from Rose Blossom Gardens #7 was pretty easy to do.  I love playing along with blog challenges that support the use of Close To My Heart products as these two sites do!  It was a great sketch and the Artiste K page had fun elements to work with.  I wanted to highlight her milestone birthday--the big 30 so I cut the numbers at 1.25" using Artiste from a repurposed foil take out lid.  (The silvery metallic lid did not photograph well here).  The frame behind the numbers was cut from Dreamin' paper (retired CTMH) accent 2 pg. 58 at 3.25"--this piece is actually a mini-album page so I turned it so the binding holes were on the bottom and then concealed by the horizontal stripe. The mat for the frame was cut at slightly more than 3.25".  The White Daisy background was dry embossed with the Cuttlebug Anna Griffin Poppy folder.  The flower accents were also from page 58 accent 4 cut at 2.75" and 1.5" from Goldrush CS  and Dreamin' paper.  The greeting is from Perfect Fit--Birthday and was stamped in Indian Corn BlueSilver Glitz Glitter Gel was applied to the smaller flower center and the tips of the larger flower.   The three round accents were made with a 3/8" hole punch from the same paper as the blue and white frame and then glitzed with Stardust Glitz Glitter Gel.  The base of the card is Pacifica CS--one of my favorite Close To My Heart colors.  The card was 5" wide by 6.5" tall.  The "30" and "Celebrate" greeting were popped up with 3D Foam Tape.  I really like how this card came out and will probably replicate for other special birthday cards.

Here is the foil lid that I cut the numbers from (I did set the Cricut machine pressure to 5 as it is somewhat thicker than regular CS).

Please consider playing along with these challenges.

Thanks for stopping by!  Have a wonderful week filled with fun and creativity!  Be sure to stop back Friday morning to see what I'll be posting for the new Color My Heart Color Dare!

Masking 101 for Heart 2 Heart Challenge

I'm very excited to be sharing with my Close To My Heart friends in this first post for the Heart 2 Heart Challenges Design Team!  This is a challenge blog run by Close To My Heart consultants and featuring--you guessed it--Close To My Heart products.  Our challenge this first week of July is to share something made using a "Masking" technique so I chose one of my favorite CTMH stamps called "Cozy Cat" to illustrate this technique.  Here is my finished card:

I started with a 5.5" x 4.25" piece of White Daisy CS.  How did I get 3 cats on this piece?   I started with stamping the cat in the center first.

Next I  made a "mask" by stamping  the cat onto a piece of yellow Post-it Note.  I turned the notepad upside down so that the pillow base was over the "sticky" part.

Then I cut the mask out right on the lines.

Next I placed the mask over the stamped image.

I stamped to the right of the cat and onto the mask.

Then I reinked the stamp and placed the cat to the left partially covering the mask.

I then removed the mask and voila--3 cats, 2 appearing to be behind the center cat!

After I had my three cats stamped, I used the following Close To My Heart Alcohol markers to color them in: Honey, Ruby, Whisper, Pacifica, and Topiary.  Each marker set comes with a lighter and a darker marker of the same color so it made it really easy to get two tones on each pillow.

The Whisper CS mat was cut at 6" x 4.75" and the Pacifica base is 6.5" x  10" (card folded in half). The sentiment on the Ruby CS panel (1.25" x 6.5")is from Love Life and was embossed with White Embossing Powder.  If you have been following my blog for any length of time you probably know what my favorite embellishment is--Stardust Glitz Glitter Gel which I applied to the cats' collars.

Would you like to join us in this masking challenge?  Create a papercrafted item using mostly Close To My Heart products and use a direct link to link up here.  You must mention Heart 2 Heart Challenges and link back to us in your blogpost if you enter the challenge.  You have until the end of the month to post it here.  We will pick winners at the end of the month for each of the challenges of the month. We look forward to seeing what you create!

Color Dare #49 Using Artiste Birthday Boy Key

Welcome back to another Color My Heart Color Dare post!  This week the challenge is to use the Close To My Heart colors Cranberry, White Daisy and Pacifica which would be great colors for a Fourth of July card.  Instead I chose to combine this challenge with the Rose Blossom Garden Challenge #6 to use the CTMH Artiste cricut cartridge Birthday Boy key (pg.68) to create a papercrafted item.  The Cranberry rocket was accent 1 cut at 2.75" and the Pacifica "night sky" with stars cut out--which is supposed to be a party hat--was cut at 3.75" and was trimmed to fit the top corner of the card.  Underneath the Pacifica hat shape is a piece of metallic cardboard that was left over from a foil takeout container.  I used a Sponge Dauber and Pacifica ink to eliminate the white core of the Pacifica CS.  The greeting was generated on the computer and layered over Whisper CS.  The final touch was the application of Silver Glitz Glitter Gel coming from the end of the rocket.  I'm also entering this card into the Less is More Challenge 125 to  make a birthday card for Jen.

Here is a photo of the metallic food container lid that I repurposed for the stars:

Please head on over to Color My Heart Color Dare and be inspired by what the rest of the Design Team has created.  You'll be glad you did.  We welcome you to submit your papercrafted creations using only these three colors--Cranberry, White Daisy and Pacifica (with neutral colors if you so desire.)  Don't have these Close To My Heart colors?  No problem--you may substitute similar colors.

And now for some EXCITING NEWS:

I'm on the new Design Team for Heart 2 Heart Challenges which will run from July through December 2013!  I became aware of this Challenge blog almost 3 years ago when I began blogging and was drawn to it because it features my favorite products--Close to My Heart.  I am thrilled to be selected to join this very talented group of Close To My Heart consultants whose work I have admired for quite awhile.   Every two weeks I will be sharing a papercrafted project using Close To My Heart products.  New challenges are listed on Mondays and you have the calendar month to link your artwork up.  Please come play along with me there!

Thanks for stopping by!  Have a wonderful week filled with fun and creativity!

Color Dare #42--Blush, Cotton Candy and Hollyhock--Happy Mother's Day!

Color My Heart Color Dare is a weekly color challenge that features Close To My Heart colors--feel free to substitute similar colors if you don't have these colors yet. Three lovely pinks are the challenge ingredients for week #42.   From left to right these colors are Blush, Cotton Candy and Hollyhock.  Before I glued them to the Black CS I used temporary adhesive to attach them to a piece of scrap paper so I could black emboss the  flourish from the Love Life stamp set.  The #1 Mom medallion was cut from Black and Grey Glitter Paper using the CTMH Artiste cartridge (page 74 shift cut at 1.5").  This piece was then adhered to a square of Black CS and then popped up off of the card using 3D Foam Tape.  The bottom White Daisy stripe was dry embossed with a Cuttlebug folder and then embellished with Pink Glitz Glitter Gel.  The last thing I did to this card was to place Silver Glitz Glitter Gel dots to the ends of the flourish image.

I am also entering this card into the following challenges:
Stuck on U Sketches--Use a Diecut for Mom or Mother
Fantabulous Cricut #159--Mother's Day
ABC Challenges #27--Tic Tac Toe--Glitter, Dry Embossing, Pink Cardstock

I was very pleased to have my hexagon card from last week's Color Dare challenge selected as last week's Top Three in the new Atlantic Hearts Challenge blog.  This blog was started by Atlantic Canadian Close to My Heart consultants Darla Haverstock and Michelle Stewart.

Now it's your turn to see what you can come up with using these three pinks.  Are you up for this challenge?  If so, please link your blog post featuring your papercrafted creation (does not have to be a card) to Color My Heart Color Dare by Thursday, May 16 at 9PM CT.  I look forward to seeing you in our gallery!

Color Dare #38--Buttercup, Pear and Twilight

Color My Heart Color Dare has a new challenge with new Close To My Heart colors:  Buttercup, Pear and Twilight.  I probably would not have thought of putting these colors together originally but thanks to Sarah's vision that is the challenge.  I do like how these colors work together in my card.  A card on Pinterest was my inspiration for this card.  The papers I used are Twilight from Florentine, Pear from Chantilly, Buttercup from Buttercup Fleurs des Jardines, with White Daisy and Slate as neutrals.  The flower centers were embellished with small pieces of Colonial White Rosette Ribbon and Clear Sparkles.  The greeting is from Casual Expressions and was stamped in Twilight ink.

Are you up for this week's challenge!  You have until Thursday, April 18 at 9PM CST to post your papercrafted item.  If you don't have these exact Close to My Heart colors, feel free to substitute something close to these colors.  We look forward to viewing your artwork in our gallery.  Please visit the other Color Dare Design Team blogs for more inspiration.  You won't be disappointed!

Color Dare #19 and Try Stamping on Tuesday #93

The Color My Heart Color Dare #19 has been extended for a week due to the Thanksgiving holiday which gave me a chance to participate.  The colors are from Close To My Heart--Hollyhock, Cranberry and Sweet Leaf.  I followed the sketch from Try Stamping on Tuesday #93.  The swing card was cut using the Artiste cricut cartridge at 5.5" from page 52 (Accent 3 Shift).  I started with White Daisy cardstock as my base and then added the Sweet Leaf patterned paper from the retired Miracle paper packet. The top part of the card was texturized using a wadded up piece of plastic wrap and Hollyhock ink--a faux marbling technique I used to use almost 20 years ago!  The rose stamp is from Card Word Puzzle and the inside greeting is from Card Chatter--Birthday.  I used Cranberry Ink over Hollyhock CS to stamp the images.

Have you ever nearly finished a project and then smudged it up? (look at the right side of card) This is very frustrating for a Virgo like me!  How could I fix it?

I used 2 ribbon pieces instead of 1 so I could cover it up. The stripes were retired ribbons from Close To My Heart--White Daisy and Cranberry and the ribbon is red twine (unknown source).  Here is the completed inside of the card:

Thanks for stopping by to visit my blog.  Please consider sharing your artwork on these 2 fabulous blogs.  Have a wonderful week filled with fun and creativity!
